A recent article in the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) Discover page details how the “declining achievement across primary and secondary school levels in Australia have been recorded in (standardised) assessments like NAPLAN, PISA and PIRLS. One in 5 students starts secondary school 3 or more years behind their peers, scoring at or below minimum standards. “In-depth interviews with principals, leading teachers, teachers and several from non-school support roles were conducted … (with) themes emerg(ing) in the responses, including a perception of a gap between the expectations of the curriculum progression between years 3 to 6 and years 7 to 10.
ACER Chief Executive Professor Geoff Masters AO identified some of the issues … in the (Australian) curriculum. “Every student is assigned the same year-level curriculum at the same time and is given the same amount of time to work on it,’ he says. ‘All students are assessed with the same tests and examinations (administered at the same times) and their performances are evaluated against the same expectations or achievement standards. “All are then simultaneously given the next year-level curriculum and the process recommences, whatever their readiness.”
  • Our Model
In an Independent Assurance Report to Parliament in June 2024, the key findings from the Tutor Learning Initiative were detailed. The model of tutoring was “called small group learning, where a tutor works with groups of 2 to 5 students with similar learning needs. The tutor, who must be a qualified teacher, generally works with students in regular sessions for 6 to 20 weeks”. “Tutoring sessions addresses gaps in students’ knowledge or skills. Once these gaps are closed, students continue learning in the classroom with quality teaching that is adapted to their needs. Research in Australia and overseas shows that tutoring can be highly effective to help students”.
A recent review highlighted that “a growing body of research indicates that (pre-instruction testing) such testing — formally known as prequestioning or pretesting — can benefit learning if there is an opportunity to study the correct answers afterwards … the evidence to date indicates that prequestioning and pretesting can often enhance learning”.
“This comprehensive review of pre-instruction testing shows that answering questions (of) about to-be-learned information benefits learning of that information. These benefits apply across fairly simple materials, such as paired associates, to more complex materials, such as reading passages, videos, and live lectures. Benefits of pre-instruction testing have been shown across a variety of test formats and time intervals and in real educational environments with different age groups and different subject matters”.
  • Exclusively Online?
A new study by Spanish researchers details the impact of an online math tutoring program for around 175 students, aged 12 to 15, in Madrid and Catalonia. The study revealed that students in the tutoring program outperformed a control group in standardized tests and grades, and were less likely to repeat a grade. Additionally, these students reported greater effort in their schoolwork. Researchers estimated that the improvement in students’ grades was comparable to the progress typically made in six additional months of learning.
A paper released in February 2021 examines an Italian tutoring program offered by 523 tutors to 1,000 middle school students from 76 schools across Italy. The study found the program boosted students’ standardized test scores, attendance, time spent on homework, and overall well-being. These positive effects were consistent regardless of the device used; students who used smartphones experienced the same benefits as those using laptops or other computers.

Aga’s Academy focuses on English, Mathematics and Science, offering comprehensive tutoring for students from Years 2 to 10.
All sessions are held on weekend mornings. Detailed timings can be found in the Google Chats space upon enrollment.
We offer six distinct pricing plans: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Emerald, Diamond and Platinum. These plans vary based on the number of subjects and the choice between monthly or semester payments.
Each semester at Aga’s Academy spans 5 months or 20 weeks. We operate on a two-semester system: the 1st Semester runs from the first week of February to mid-June, and the 2nd Semester from mid-July to November.
In addition to the breaks between semesters (Summer and Winter breaks), no additional holidays are provided.
Our innovative Quinn Formula caps classes at 5 students, ensuring a focused and effective online learning environment.
While we recommend enrolling at the beginning of a semester, we accept enrollments throughout the semester. Our admin team is ready to assist you with any queries for a smooth enrollment process.
All sessions are conducted online, utilising Google Products (Chats, Forms, Meets, etc.) for end-to-end management.
Yes, our first session at Aga’s Academy is absolutely FREE! Additionally, our Silver and Diamond (MONTHLY) packages offer four consecutive sessions, after which you can assess our performance and efficacy before deciding to continue with us.
Yes, enrollment can be cancelled at any time. For a smooth cancellation process, please send us a query via the ‘Contact Us’ box.
You may request a fine-tuner change (subject to availability), but please note that class timings are fixed.
Yes, seats can be put on hold. Please provide the start and end dates for your child’s absence by sending it through the ‘Contact Us’ box. Please, inform the admin team promptly of any changes to these dates.
